EV Service

If you're driving or thinking about purchasing a Lexus EV, hybrid, or BEV, it's important to know that electric vehicle maintenance is different from typical vehicle maintenance.

There are many benefits to purchasing an EV, such as reduced emissions and potential fuel-cost savings. In many cases, EVs can also have lower routine maintenance needs than gas-powered vehicles because they have fewer moving parts and don’t require services like oil changes.

Although you may not need as many routine service visits, that doesn't mean electric vehicles don't require any maintenance; there are still a few things you’ll want to keep an eye on. Here are our top 6 tips for maintaining your electric vehicle:

Lexus Electric Vehicle Maintenance Schedule

Make sure your vehicle is ready for the roads by staying on top of Lexus EV routine maintenance. Below, you will find a few of the key steps of the Lexus electric car maintenance schedule.

Battery Checks

We highly encourage regular battery checks because of the important role that the battery plays in an EV. These inspections are even more important if your vehicle features a lithium-ion pack. You can expect about 100,000 miles or more out of your EV battery, but regular inspections help pinpoint small issues before they cause bigger problems.

Brake Fluid Replacement

Oil changes are not a part of the Lexus electric car maintenance schedule. However, you will have to maintain other fluids, such as brake fluid. Every 35 years, you will need to replace the brake fluid.

Coolant System Maintenance

Does your EV have a special thermal management or cooling system to improve battery performance? To see when this service is needed, take a look at your owners manual.

Tire Rotation

EV battery packs are quite heavy, and the added weight can cause your tires to wear down sooner. A tire rotation should occur every 5,000 to 10,000 miles.

Wheel Alignment

Remember to also have your wheels aligned every 15,000 miles to improve driving range and reduce tire tread wear.

Air Filter Replacement

Minimize the amount of pollen, road dust, dirt, and other harmful contaminants that enter the cabin of your vehicle when you replace the air filter every twothree years. Some specialty filters can go as long as five years before needing replacement.
